a wing and a prayer, here, guys... [13 Jun 2006|06:56pm]

i have no idea if this community is still, erm, alive, but i sure hope it is just underground for awhile.

i got into the newsies fandom lately, and i've plotted out a fairly ambitious javid fic set in 1901. and, well, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of active communities where i could hope to get support, criticism, etc. for a project like this. i'm hoping that, if this community isn't where i should be, then someone could push me in the right direction. i'd love something on lj, but it doesn't seem like the fandom lives here much, so any suggestions are welcome.

How goes the first day of noveling, fellow wrimos? And would anybody like to share writing journal links? Mine's sliceofpsyche. I've made the decision to friends lock all my original excerpts and stuff, but I have no problem adding people. Drop me a line if you want to be added!

I feel the need. The need...to spam. [27 Oct 2004|11:30am]

[ mood | weird ]

So I know what the theme for my novel is. Not the literary theme, sillies! The musical one that you hear constantly throughout the film that will certainly be made, with minor variations depending on the scene, always at emotional points, always ALWAYS in the previews, and on the menu screen of the special edition DVD. I am so productive.

Anyway, it's the bastard love child of "Hedwig's Theme," "Close Your Eyes (Buffy/Angel Love Theme)," and "Once Upon a December." I suppose my muse has figured that if I'm going to be derivative, I may as well be INSANELY derivative. I've been humming all three and feeling delicious creepy and foreboding all morning. (Isn't it sad that my idea of "creepy" is a song about a little boy's owl?)

But I've also come up with an unnamed Mary Sue, random unnamed minor villains, and a vague idea of how the story gets going. Very vague. I still don't know my protagonist, like, at ALL, which is a problem. Anyone know what a twelve-year-old girl who hasn't noticed boys yet wants? Anyone? Bueller?

Heyo! [08 Oct 2004|01:09am]

[ mood | curious ]

Okay, I know like ... 2 people on this list but I had to join.

As soon as I saw the words "Newsies" and "Nano" in the same name ... yeah ...
I'm not actually gonna be doing a Newsies fic/novel for the month. I have something a bit more concrete that I've been stewing on the backburner for some time now.

Actually, I have a pair of novella works or possibly novels ...
The working title on the series is Dragon Rising and the original idea leans towards a Reign of Fire/DragonRiders of Pern feel. But I pretty much can work away from that within the first chapter or two. (I hope)

I'll be attempting to put all of "Brother Bring Me Home" (Part 1) down and finalized for NaNoWriMo2004.
Maybe I'll do "River Wylde" (Part 2) for 2005. Lol

Anyway ... HI! *waves*

durr. [06 Oct 2004|09:53pm]

[ mood | worried ]

So is anyone else's NaNo novel impossibly derivative and borderline plagiaristic?

See, my problem is that I'm forcing the plot. So I sit there in class trying to think of what's happening, and why, and when, and to whom, and my subconscious is like, "Grr, yo. This be hard. Here, take some other people's ideas!" And I'm all, "No, dawg." And it's all, "Ha HA." Because once I come up with something, it's stuck in my stupid head and very little short of an act of God can dislodge it.

All of which is why I have a novel that has a catalyst/"sin" like The Magician's Nephew, an overhanging danger like the last season of Angel, a relationship between the heroine and her best friend that is one part Nita and Kit from Young Wizards, one part Lyra and Will from His Dark Materials, and one part Lyra and Roger from His Dark Materials, and a character named Luke.

This is alarming. Have I not an original thought in my head? Does this happen to anyone else, in NaNo or otherwise? I beseech thee!

Fun stuff [04 Oct 2004|09:56pm]

[ mood | cold ]

Hey, guys! Just pimping this cool progress meter for those of you who want something to show off how they're doing on word count. I used it last year and this year I posted the image in my profile.

Another one is this doohicky, which I can't use because I don't have excel. *sadness* But it sounds really awesome.
